A Handy Map For Everywhere You Can Buy Legal Weed in NYC
For the stoner on-the-go in the Big Apple
Hello lovers,
Happy Valentine’s Day! I’m engaging in self-love this year by getting ready to hop off to a hot tub and fireplace in the Catskills this weekend followed by a trip to Spannabis in Barcelona in March, which means I’ve been in deep recon mode. And my not-so-secret planning hack to do this is Google maps.
Covering food, travel, cannabis, and everything in between, I inevitably find myself doing a lot of recon to find the “best of the best.” Doing this also means I need to act and think like a tourist, which for me includes long, meandering walks and getting lost because (ideally) this is how I would operate when I’m not working or at an all-inclusive resort splitting my time between sipping on piña coladas sprawled out on a beach chair with a book then shrouding myself in darkness and aloe recovering from the inevitable sunburn and heat exhaustion in my hotel room (always wear sunscreen!).
Having a map with everything saved allows me to pinpoint a general area with a bunch of bookmarks, get lost, and ultimately find my way—particularly useful if you also happen to be high. Consider it strategic intuition to help save time while wasting it. I’m very specific about some of my lists—a butter crawl for the best croissants in Paris, a hot chocolate list for Barcelona—and as I was making my latest hit list for Spannabis, it dawned on me that I should probably start marking cannabis dispensaries and lounges. In many ways, it changes your perspective a little bit by offering an unconventional view of a city’s subculture hiding in plain sight, while also being smart about making the most of your time.
Yes, WeedMaps and Leafly have incredibly useful apps where you can scour menus and deals, but maybe you just want to know there’s a dispensary nearby your own lengthy to-do list so you can get snacks, shop, hit up a museum, or plan for a picnic in the park after stocking up. Having a list like this saved means that any time you open Google Maps from now on, you’ll always see the little Devil’s Lettuce icon letting you know that there’s always a quality joint or eddy within arm’s reach. What a time to be alive.
Since I receive the most questions about New York City, I decided to make this handy map that you can save and share. After a lengthy roll out, there are presently 67 legal cannabis dispensaries in New York State among an endless sea of unlicensed gray area shops, and about 20 of those are in New York City (more if you count Staten Island, but frankly Jersey City is closer and no one I know has any time to go to Staten Island; bookmark your own if you want to go). Better than the nine last year, but clearly we have a long way to go.
Save and share. If you want to send a thank you, please like this post instead of lurking and consider upgrading to a paid subscription. You can also send me money via Venmo (it’s my birthday next week!).
