Papa Barkley’s Future Weed Travel in Eureka // Recipe: 5-minute infused Schezuan noodles
Hey everyone,
“Party on, Wayne.” A disaffected Wayne allows corporate weed to enter the space. An optimistic Weed Witch says, “Well, it’s not all bad.” We are officially one now.
Welcome to New York in the year 2021 before Soylent Green. No astrology report today. Too busy being shoved into the sunlight to burn at the beach!
Question for everyone: WHERE IS JAY Z? Weed legalized and I was just expecting at least an SNL performance with a blunt. Presently, I am at the Rockaways and some guy in a black bucket hat and neon green shorts is keeping it REAL. He is READY TO PARTY DOWN. He’s got Jay Z, Mariah, Wu Tang. All the tunes, none of the stars. Really makes you think.
This is a baby issue. Mainly because so much has been going on that I didn’t even know what to say. It’s been over a year since I launched this during an impromptu global pandemic, so kind of just took a step back for myself. There’s a lot I can say that I haven’t written yet, but I wanted to give something to the individuals who keep supporting me through this project. Thank you. I’ll be over here drinking this very thick smoothie though a metal straw.
Anyway, here is your World Wide Weed news.
Legendary rapper, entrepreneur, and Bed Stuy local Fab Five Freddy has teamed up with Curaleaf to launch B-Noble, a partnership brand honoring Bernard Noble—a man who served seven out of 13 years over two joints. If you haven’t had the chance, check out the documentary, Grass is Greener.
Sha’carri Richardson might not be able to run because of weed, but she did get a $250K vape sponsorship opp as a back up to the Wheaties box. Why does that sit really weird with me? Dominique Dawes is sympathetic, but says “rules are rules.” Meanwhile, Usain Bolt says, “Refocus but carry on.” REFOCUS AND SHA’CARRI ON.
Sophie Saint Thomas writes about mixing psychedelics and weed over at Miss Grass. TBH I think CBD is good is you’re having a bad trip. I prefer to microdose. Or just order mushroom pizza.
Cannabitch interviewed a lady in Maine about lobsters, David Foster Wallace, and even kicks things off with a Dostoevsky quote. And here I thought I was the nihilistic one of the bunch! Just call me Mary Jane sunshine and let’s get on with it!
BreadxButta has a new membership going on at their new Bushwick wellness studio.
The Kush Queen Olivia Alexander is on vacation and brought all the drugs.
Sewwww many braaaaaannndsss.

Future Weedkend Getaways in Eureka with Papa & Barkley
I know nothing of Eureka, but a luxury spa with a weed store is coming their way! Papa & Barkley, a high-quality national cannabis brand is partnering on a dope new hotel project in Eureka, California with Humboldt Social that includes the first P&S factory store. It’s exactly the kind of place many would love to see as the norm rather than the exception. Weed at every hotel!
Here’s the thing about destination cannatourism in places like Amsterdam: the Dutch don’t really like the stag and hen parties that overtake their town. Etiquette is a thing, and most locals hate shitty tourists, no matter where you go. This is why many people are into resort travel. So if you’re a resort person, this may be the ‘cation for you.
I chatted with Papa & Barkley’s co-founders Amy Cirincione O’Connor and Adam Grossman about what to expect.
How long have they been working on this? Was this in the works pre-pandemic or a pivot?
“Humboldt Social and Papa & Barkley have been talking about this project for about 2 years. It was in the works pre-pandemic. It combines an innovative retail, spa and restaurant concept, all integrated into the Papa & Barkley factory store, located adjacent to the brand’s 60,000 square foot production facility. Papa & Barkley bought the old KMart for its factory - Papa & Barkley Social sits in the old garden section on the side of the facility.” - Amy Cirincione O’Connor, Co-Founder of Humboldt Social
How do you get there and what's the average cost for a weekend?
“Papa & Barkley Social is located in Eureka, California right on Highway 101. We are about 5 ½ hours north of San Francisco.”
What is consumption like with hospitality now? What lessons have they learned that are useful for other operators who want to look into imparting this model as part of the future of canna-tourism?
“In our world, we are normalizing cannabis in hospitality. We’re a bit ahead of the curve with this model, but we believe that very soon we will see a wider embrace of cannabis by event venues, lodging, dining and tours. We fully believe that integrating cannabis in our hospitality can be done in multiple ways, and the key is finding ones compatible with your current model and style. Cannabis-forward businesses like dispensaries are one model, but you can also add cannabis to your business in more subtle ways like including information about farm tours or dispensaries in the Local Attractions materials that you offer guests. The important first step is learning about your local regulations and how you can compliantly incorporate cannabis into your business based on your current permits.”
Tell us more about the edibles.
“We entered the edibles category focusing on the core elements of our brand identity. We wanted to create healthy wellness products that could be part of people’s daily routines. Our edibles, like our other products, are all made with innovative artisanal production methods and solventless, chemical free extraction processes. All our products are natural, and whole-plant, full spectrum products, meaning they contain the plant’s complete profile of beneficial components.
“Our Releaf Gummies and Releaf Chocolates are all offered at Papa & Barkley Social. People take them to help with stress, acute pain, and trouble sleeping, as well as for fun. Our Releaf Gummies, which combine tasty fruit flavors with solventless hash, are vegan, keto-friendy, zero-calorie, sugar-free, and gluten-free. This makes them accessible to those with dietary restrictions and preferences. They come in 4 delicious flavors: Tart Apple, Berry Burst, Juicy Orange, and Wild Strawberry.
Our soy-free, non-GMO Releaf Chocolates are crafted with Fair Trade Certified ingredients, making Papa & Barkley the first California-based cannabis brand to be certified by Fair Trade USA. These handcrafted chocolate bars, infused with solventless fresh-pressed rosin, are slow-churned, creating a silky texture and rich flavor. The chocolate is available in Milk Chocoaltet and 66% Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt.” - Adam Grossman, Papa & Barkley Founder & Executive Chairman of the Board
How are they preparing for the drought with the baths? Has that impacted them? “We don’t offer weed baths. Our Spa services are massages - including hot stone and CBD- and THC-infused massages - and dry brushing. They all require minimal water.”- Cirincione O’Connor
What about Eureka compelled the brands to choose that location for P&B Social?
“Eureka has always been Papa & Barkley’s home. I have a deep connection to the area due to having family there and being a nature-lover and adventure traveler. Eureka is the county seat of Humboldt County, in the heart of the Emerald Triangle (Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity counties) where the best sun grown cannabis in the world grows, with the widest variety of strains and most multi-generational farmers. We source almost all of our cannabis from these farmers and are a part of the community. We were actually the first cannabis brand to be awarded a manufacturing and distribution license from Eureka.
Today, we are the largest manufacturing employer in Eureka, partnered with over 250 farmers in the Emerald Triangle and have multiple manufacturing facilities. Our Broadway location now houses Papa & Barkley Social. We felt it was important to open Papa & Barkley Social in Eureka because we are committed to giving back to the community, spotlighting our amazing farm partners, and encouraging more people to come explore the town’s beauty.” - Grossman
How are they making experiences at P&B Social magical for guests?
“Our space is incredibly beautiful. It’s filled with natural light, salvaged wood and glass display cases, thousands of live plants (including clones for sale). It smells amazing inside and you can visit for a spa treatment, to make a purchase, have a meal or a mocktail, or gather with friends in our smoking lounge. We’ve created a wonderful setting, but I think our guests will make the real magic.” -Cirincione O’Connor
