Consumption Lounge: Peace Pipes and Other Gifts For The Holidaze
Because you and everyone you know are worth it. Plus, a special discount!
Hi everyone,
I’m about half-way through the longest, most luxurious joint of Zealousy 1 from Channabis—a company that somehow has both extremely detailed, regulation-compliant testing information on the side of the bottle indicating that it is a legitimate product and yet no real online footprint as a cannabis company—that I picked up at Have A Heart in Seattle and, by some incredible magic, just ended up back in my apartment in New York. No idea how that happened! It’s just here! If you’ve got ‘em, smoke ‘em, amirite? Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.
I rolled the joint using my brand new Banana Bros Otto Grinder. In retrospect, I probably should have just done a giveaway because the one I got back in 2018 for Leafly is still going strong! Truly built to last, I swear on my mother.
For the unfamiliar, the Otto is an automatic joint filler— kind of convenient if you need to make a bunch of pre-rolls to have at the ready or plan on giving joints to friends as presents. (It’s also made with aerospace aluminum milling technology?! Am I taking it to Mars—how high am I getting here!?) And guess what? IT’S ON SALE FOR BLACK FRIDAY! SALE! SALE! SALE! Get 15 percent off with code BF-15 and free domestic ground shipping on orders over $50.
OK, so it’s holiday gift time, which is code word for: time to come clean about which PR products you received this year and liked. I kid, I kid. Maybe you have someone special in your life you want to get presents for, and maybe that person is you! Here are some nice things to buy now for later that I like a lot and might have a discount, even:

Travel Weekender / Aer ($189)
A couple of weeks ago, I received a text asking about luggage recommendations for Black Friday. Luggage is actually a pretty underrated Black Friday item, but worth looking into if you’ve been thinking about upgrading because good luggage is expensive (but entirely worth it)! This is the second bag I’ve test driven from Aer and can attest that it’s very durable and also very comfortable. It’s made with 1680D Cordura ballistic nylon exterior with YKK zippers, has soft padding for laptop, and a spot for luggage handle pass-through—which is important if you’re the kind of person who likes to travel minimally and whisk through TSA because airports stress you out (me). But honestly, I’m more of a backpack girl and prefer the Travel Pack 3 as my “personal item” because it’s just way more efficient for keeping track of your belongings and easy access to passports, cords, etc. while going through trains, planes, and automobiles, and will cut down on hassles at the airport. Black Friday Deal: Use code SAVE20 for 20% off site-wide from Nov. 24 to 27
Let's Get Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie (50mg Delta 8) / Kush Queen ($12)
I talk about Kush Queen a lot on this newsletter, but it’s only because legitimately love all of their products. In fact, I broke keto for this cookie and have zero regrets about that. It is a GOOD cookie. Not just a good weed cookie. A GOOD cookie. I don’t know if you realize what a huge step this is for the edibles space, but edibles used to auto-trigger my gag reflex because they were just that heinous tasting. Choking on these grassy, stale ditch weed treats then be stoned out of my gourd for some horrific amount of time, completely hating every waking moment. And now I live in a world where if I take just a nibble of this delicious cookie, I am completely fine. Because if I eat that whole cookie, I know what’s going to happen. So, always go slow ‘n’ steady and have plenty of snacks ready so you don’t make a bunch of mistakes. Black Friday Deal: 50% off, bitches! Code Gift50! You can really get it all here: bath bombs, topicals, gummies, cookies, you name it—all the treats!
Pastel Rainbow Menorah / Make Good Choices ($440)
This is maybe the first year ever I’ve gotten to fawn over menorahs because they’re typically so conservative it’s not even worth mentioning in a gift guide. So, while I have your attention, I need to direct it towards the future (Friday at 5pm PST) when ceramicist Alex Simon drops her highly anticipated Hitachi Magic Wand menorah on Instagram that will either make your bubbe laugh or completely disown you. If you can’t wait, she has a bunch of cool ceramic menorahs that could possibly also double as a joint holder? Treat yourself!
Menorahs / Susan Alexandra ($25-$1,350)
I’m kind of obsessed with Susan’s entire Judaica collection, but the menorah collection has so many good pieces for the well-designed home I’d like to have. The Frida one is sold out, but it’s on my mood board in case anyone wanted to know/give to me. Black Friday Deal: 30% off most stuff through Monday 11/27
Sullivan Set in Frankenthaler Teal / House of Puff ($46)
How chic is this teal tamping stick and cigarette holder that was made as an homage to artist Helen Frankenthaler? Makes me want to use it while having coffee and doing the crossword as the sunlight peeks through my window on the laziest Sunday morning before an afternoon of stoned painting in my elegant button down. Also, check out the Pipe Dreams interview with founder Kristina Lopez Adduci!
JGoldcrown x PAX Vaporizer ($125-$200)
Maybe it’s because I took Snoop Dogg’s is he/isn’t he smoking hiatus to heart, but I’ve been finding myself gravitating back towards my PAX, the leading dry herb vaporizer brand for the past decade. In many legal states, the brand now has pre-packed flower pods cut to fit their vaporizers, including the latest collaboration with JGoldcrown. Hope to see more artist-designed skins in the future! Black Friday Deal: Up to 30% off sitewide starting November 22 through Giving Tuesday on November 28. Get 10% off PAX MINI, 15% off PAX PLUS, and everything else 20% off. On Giving Tuesday, 10% of sales will go to The Social Impact Center.
Cloud9 Glassware / Go Easy ($50)
For your favorite dreamy lil stoner, get them the gift of a trip to Cloud 9 with this very cute pipe from Dallas, Texas-based woman-owned smoke boutique, Go Easy. Not only do these pipes look cute, but they’re pretty disarming as a present for a canna-curious friend. Black Friday Deal: 30% off everything!
Thank You for Pot Smoking Rolling Tray / Rogue Paq ($60)
Turns out that I hoard rolling trays because there at least six of them in my apartment right now that are all very cool for entirely different reasons (who could really pick a favorite child?). But this stainless steel joint rolling tray with gold finish adds an undeniably classy touch to my desk, maybe with a book of their cute matches? Black Friday Deal: Black Friday through the close of Cyber Monday, get a bigger savings the more you spend. Order $25+ get 10% savings; Order $50+ get 15% savings; Order $85+ get 20% savings; Order $150+ get 25% savings. Orders $70+ include free shipping and all carbon-neutral shipping through Planet.
Chili Pepper Lighter + Carry Case Kit / Sackville & Co. ($60)
Did you catch the latest podcast with Lana Van Brunt and Hayley Dineen? Sackville’s signature gold carrying case has been on my keychain for the past three years and always my top conversational piece for the gal on the go who is never without a “just in case” joint. And you’ll never have to worry about someone stealing your lighter when it’s attached as a cute lil accessory. Black Friday Deal: Half-off, baby! Get 50% applied at check out.
The Mini Malm Burner / Kate Schroeder Ceramics ($200)
If you have a bit of a Midcentury fetish, but also lack the sprawling bungalow that would accommodate a luxury vintage fireplace, look no further than this miniature incense burner from Kate Schroeder Ceramics—now in Modrian form! How cute are those little log palo santo sticks? Grab your Barbies, we’re going to the Catskills!
Easy Weekend Getaways in the Hudson Valley & Catskills / Carly Fisher ($22)
Speaking of Malm Fireplaces, did you know there are many cute and cozy cabins in Hudson Valley and the Catskills that have them? And I wrote the best guide to help you figure it out. Some of my favorites include Eastwind in Windham, The Arnold House in Livingston Manor, Rivertown Lodge and WM Farmer & Sons in Hudson. When are we going? Black Friday Deal: Both Amazon and Target are selling buy three for the price of two specials going on. Or you could just go to your favorite bookstore for Small Business Saturday!

My So-Called Literary Algorithm
I’ve been absolutely terrible about promoting other writers, but the more you read, the more you know! Including…
Who’s on Judge Mathis today? Good question! This week: Laron from Valparaiso, Indiana, and Meagan from Merrillville, Indiana, going head-to-head over a—gasp!—a $1,375 auto dispute in the wake of a messy break up.

I can’t even begin to tell you how sad I am that I no longer have an ice cream maker and cannot justify having one in my extremely small apartment unless I hire a contractor or someone at HGTV to turn my apartment into some other reality where an ice cream maker would actually fit. But that brief moment when I could make my own ice cream was really great, and I have to thank David Lebovitz because I had three other ice cream books and his was the one I used the most. That base recipe is pretty locked down. Anyway, I can’t make this recipe, but I absolutely would if I had an ice cream maker. So, if you have one, do it for those of us who can’t.

Is Cava a dramatic wine? Everything is drama in the wine industry. Most dramatic industry on the planet. Not even a question. There are entire books written about wine drama. There should be a soap opera on ABC called “All My Winos” because that’s how much drama there is in the wine industry (also, just went down a Wikipedia rabbit hole to find out if there are telenovelas in Spain). But especially when it comes to creating educational/topical primers on different wine categories to educate wine sales professionals that don’t need to size-up the historical marketing struggles of wineries and their incessant complex about the staying power of French appellations to justify value in the marketplace. A drink sounds good! How about this one:
Mata I Coloma ‘Pere Mata Cupada #25’ Brut Nature Reserva, $24 Pere Mata remains within the Cava D.O. (for now) working his 5-hectare estate, Mata i Coloma. His entry level blend of macabeu, parellada, and xarel·lo is a full of stone fruit and ginger, with rich creaminess, and salty finish. Crazy to find this much complexity in a sparkling wine under $25.
Yum! Sounds good to me! Can’t wait to check it out. Too bad the most salient information is buried at the bottom: the tasting notes. The Raventos I Blanc Conca Del Riu Anoia Brut Blanc De Blancs 2021 also looks good! And such a bargain for under $20. (Between us, blind tastings are my favorite because they force you to think objectively—something many people could remind themselves to do every day, yours included). Cheers to that!

Should newspapers ask writers to shill for celebrities? If your digital magazine is being run by someone born after 2000, I doubt they even thought about it. Then again, given that Fran Lebowitz is still very popular as a fringe anti-tech luddite now for successfully writing one book and spending the rest of her life getting paid to advocate smoking rights and a willingness to die in New York City, so who knows? Maybe ethics will find a home again in music journalism. I’d love to see veteran writers who have an ethical journalistic backbone get to have their voice in print again just in time for young people to hate on them for being completely out of touch.

I’m actually not entertaining at all this year and probably won’t ever until I become self-made or move into a place that can fit a table for at least two, but garlic butter mushrooms do sound good and like something I can easily make any day for the next six months, so I guess I will!
